For children with eczema, the difference between a calm month and a hard one usually comes down to bath time. Here’s the routine pediatric dermatologists most often recommend.
Soak and seal
A 5–7 minute lukewarm bath, followed by an immediate layer of fragrance-free moisturizer on damp skin, is the gold standard.
Clothes matter
Choose 100% cotton or bamboo. Wash new garments before wearing and skip fabric softeners.
Bedtime distractions
Cotton scratch mittens, cool sheets, and a calm bedtime story reduce nighttime scratching dramatically.
Safe ingredients
Look for colloidal oatmeal, ceramides, and panthenol. Avoid essential oils and “natural fragrances” — they’re still triggers.
