Building a Gentle Routine for Psoriasis

Psoriasis flares can feel impossible to predict — but a calm, consistent routine gives your skin a fighting chance. Here are the five steps we recommend across our community of dermatologists and customers.

1. Start with warmth, not heat

Hot showers strip the barrier. Aim for lukewarm water and keep showers under 8 minutes during a flare.

2. Cleanse, don’t scrub

Choose a sulfate-free cleanser like our Whisper Cleansing Gel. Apply with your hands — no washcloths or scrub brushes.

3. Apply moisturizer to damp skin

The 3-minute window after bathing is gold. A barrier-supporting cream traps water that would otherwise evaporate.

4. Treat plaques nightly

A targeted balm with low-percentage salicylic acid (like Lumen Calm Balm) gently softens scaling without thinning the skin.

5. Protect during the day

Mineral SPF is essential — sunburn is one of the most common psoriasis triggers.
